Indonesia's plan to raise biodiesel blending to 40% palm oil content (B40) may face further delays, a senior energy ministry official told Reuters. The official said the timetable is unclear, though technically the country is ready, and that implementing B40 in 2022 will be challenging.
Funding gaps and high palm prices are cited as obstacles.
A B40 mandate would divert a large volume of palm oil from exports into domestic biodiesel, tightening global vegetable oil supply and supporting prices. Delays reduce that expected demand support, which is mildly bearish for palm oil and soyoil over time.
