USDA's December WASDE lowered its 2023 US milk production forecast by 2 million pounds to 226.9 billion and cut 2024 production to 229 billion. Butter and cheese price forecasts were trimmed, and the 2023 Class III forecast was lowered to $17.05 per hundredweight.
Lower production and lower dairy product prices offset each other, leaving the milk price outlook mixed but weaker than last year.
After 136 past neutral report events, Milk (Class III) moved a median -0.1% over 5 sessions (43% higher; middle half -0.7% to +0.5%), and -0.3% over 20.
