USDA's March livestock outlook raised 2025 beef production by 120 million pounds to 26.685 billion pounds, driven by heavier carcass weights. Slaughter steer price forecasts were lowered to $199.50/cwt while feeder steer prices were raised to $274.75/cwt.
Beef import and export forecasts were also raised.
Lower fed cattle price forecasts point to softer live cattle values, while higher feeder prices signal tighter feeder supplies. The mixed revisions mean buyers face divergent price signals across the cattle chain.
