The USDA's Commodity Credit Corporation issued a final rule creating the $11 billion Farmer Bridge Assistance program, effective February 23, 2026. Payments are per-acre one-time bridge payments to producers of eligible row crops, meant to bridge until OBBBA reference price increases take effect after October 1, 2026.
Direct payments can support planted acreage and farm income, which may keep marginal acres in production and slightly soften price reactions to trade disruptions, but the effect on corn and soybean prices is modest.
