Low water conditions on the lower Mississippi River are restricting barge loads, with fewer soybeans moving toward the Gulf. Steenhoek said precipitation over recent months has only partly eased restrictions imposed by low water.
Reduced barge loading lowers effective Gulf export capacity for soybeans, which can widen Gulf basis and cut prices paid to farmers in river-dependent regions.
