South Korea confirmed its first African swine fever case of 2026 at a farm in Gangneung, Gangwon Province, with about 20,150 pigs to be culled. An additional highly pathogenic avian influenza case was detected in Cheonan.
The government allocated 16 billion won in emergency funds and expanded disinfection and inspections.
The authorities said the cull is under 1% of national pig numbers and will not significantly affect domestic pork supply. The effect on international feed or meat prices is small.
