Iowa Agriculture Secretary Mike Naig submitted comments to EPA urging it to finalize the proposed 2023-2025 RFS volumes for ethanol and to raise biomass-based diesel volumes, which he called unacceptably low. He cited Iowa's 42 ethanol biorefineries and 11 biodiesel plants as evidence of the state's biofuel leadership.
The comments asked EPA to respect congressional intent in the final rule.
Stronger ethanol and biodiesel volume requirements would support demand for corn and soybean oil, so the state's push for higher mandates is supportive for those prices if EPA adopts it.
