Brazil's Itaqui port projects higher 2017 shipping volumes on the back of a record grain harvest and development of a new northern farming frontier. Most of its export cargo arrives by rail, and the port says its voyage times to Europe and North America are seven days shorter than southern rivals.
Expanded Itaqui capacity gives Brazilian soy and corn an alternative export route, which can add competition for Santos and Paranagua loadings and modestly weigh on Brazilian export premiums.
