Several US states have imposed or tightened movement restrictions on dairy cattle after the disease now called Bovine Influenza A Virus was confirmed on farms in Texas, Kansas, Michigan, Idaho, New Mexico, Ohio and North Carolina. Requirements include veterinary certificates, permits, pre-movement testing and quarantines, varying by state.
Movement limits slow the flow of dairy cattle and can reduce milk output and cull cow supply in affected areas. Uncertainty over spread has also weighed on cattle futures.
