H5N1 bird flu has been confirmed in California dairy cows, extending the US dairy outbreak to a 14th state. More than 190 herds have been infected nationally since March, along with 13 dairy and poultry farm workers.
Spread into a major dairy state raises the risk of lower milk output and herd culling, which can pressure milk prices. Broader poultry exposure would also add to demand uncertainty for feed.
