The Army Corps of Engineers will start five lock and dam improvement projects on the Illinois River on July 1, with some work lasting until October. Agricultural shippers say they are prepared, and the Corps timed the closures to avoid harvest.
Closures will push some grain to terminals off the river and may tighten barge capacity over the summer, adding modest freight and basis pressure to Illinois River-origin feed grains.
