USDA's Foreign Agricultural Service published a report reviewing the tariff-rate quotas that govern US beef imports, which mostly consist of lean trimmings. Imports accounted for about 10 percent of US beef supply in 2021 and typically rise when the domestic cattle herd contracts.
A review of TRQ allocations could eventually change the flow of lean trimmings into the US, affecting lean beef supply and cattle-related prices, though no change has been made yet.
