Researchers at Thünen Institute and Weeks Consulting published four global producer price indices for beef cattle, weaner cattle, lambs and sheep, built from prices received by producers in 33 beef and 20 sheep countries. The indices cover 2000–2019 and track how supply, demand, market access, disease, drought and exchange rates shape farmgate prices.
A standardized global farmgate benchmark helps feed and livestock buyers compare cattle and sheep price cycles across countries. It is a methodological and historical study, so it does not by itself move near-term prices.
