German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul said he hopes an agreement on grain exports from Ukraine and Russia via the Black Sea will be reached in the coming weeks. He said the issue was central at the G20 summit held October 30-31 in Atlanta.
He added that European countries will keep up support for Ukraine and pressure on Russia.
A possible Black Sea grain shipping deal would ease export constraints and could add supply to world wheat and corn markets, which is mildly bearish for prices. The outcome is still only a hope, so the price effect is limited for now.
After 80 past bearish geopolitics events, Wheat (SRW) moved a median -0.4% over 5 sessions (44% higher; middle half -1.4% to +1.9%), and -0.5% over 20.
After 87 past bearish geopolitics events, Corn moved a median +0.1% over 5 sessions (51% higher; middle half -1.5% to +2.1%), and +0.3% over 20.
