The UN- and Turkey-brokered Black Sea Grain Initiative has allowed Ukraine to export more than 27 million tonnes of grain and fertilizers from the ports of Odesa, Chornomorsk and Yuzhny. The deal sets up a Joint Coordination Centre in Istanbul and bars attacks on covered merchant vessels and port facilities.
Military vessels are kept at least 10 nautical miles from the corridor without JCC authorization.
Safe passage restores Ukrainian export capacity, adding supply to world wheat and corn markets and easing upward price pressure. Any disruption would quickly reverse that effect.
