Russian grain exports in the first months of the 2026/27 season fell to less than half their long-term average after attacks damaged terminals in the Azov-Black Sea basin and disrupted shipments through Novorossiysk and the Azov-Don Canal. Alternative routes have gained volume, but are not expected to make up for the lost capacity; full-season grain exports could fall below 40 million tonnes.
Reduced export capacity could leave substantial grain inside Russia, adding to domestic oversupply and pressure on already weak local prices. Lower Russian export availability could also lend support to international grain prices.
