France’s agriculture ministry estimates 2026 grain corn area, including seed corn, at 1.44 million hectares, down 10.6% year over year. Soft wheat area is forecast at 4.61 million hectares, up 2.6%; sunflower is also expected to increase, while rapeseed, sugar beet and barley areas are forecast unchanged.
The smaller corn area could tighten domestic corn availability and lend support to prices, while the larger soft-wheat area may add supply and weigh on wheat prices, all else equal.
