Pennsylvania's milk board ended an over-order premium of about $1 per hundredweight, plus a fuel adjuster, that had been included in the state minimum retail price for fluid milk. The board said consumers funded the premium, but only in-state farmers supplying fluid milk received it, leaving producers supplying other products or shipping across state lines without the benefit.
Removing the premium lowers the mandated retail price burden on fluid-milk consumers and eliminates a payment that supported a subset of Pennsylvania milk producers. It may modestly reduce support for Class I milk prices relative to other milk uses.
After 24 past bearish policy events, Milk (Class III) moved a median -0.1% over 5 sessions (33% higher; middle half -1.8% to +0.5%), and -4.6% over 20.
