Cenovus will stop production at its Lloydminster ethanol plant on December 15, 2026, after an economic review. The facility bought about 350,000 tonnes of grain annually, including lower-grade wheat, rye, corn and triticale, and produced ethanol and dried distillers grains; the company has not announced a permanent closure.
The plant’s withdrawal removes a substantial local grain buyer, potentially widening basis and increasing farmers’ hauling and handling costs. Reduced ethanol production also means less DDGS output for feed markets, although the plant’s longer-term status remains uncertain.
