Hail struck Victoria’s Mallee on November 2, damaging wheat, barley, lentils, canola, lupins and other crops as they neared harvest. A grower near Birchip feared losing well over half the canola seed from 400 hectares, while flooding delayed another grower’s efforts to access damaged fields and salvage crops.
The damage could reduce Australian crop availability and support prices, particularly for canola and grains, but the amount that can be harvested remains uncertain.
