Vietnam's statistics agency reported that winter vegetable planting area increased 35.8%, while more than 955,000 hectares of the summer-autumn rice crop had been harvested. The seasonal rice area planted was 1.3699 million hectares, down 40,400 hectares from a year earlier, and livestock and poultry herds were growing ahead of the year-end peak demand period.
The larger vegetable area and expanding livestock herds point to improved food availability and could temper prices ahead of Tet. The smaller rice-planted area may limit supply, though the harvest progress figures provide additional near-term availability.
