The Indian rupee rose 17 paise to 94.47 per US dollar, its highest in two weeks and a fifth straight session of gains. Crude oil fell to about $85.76 a barrel, a two-month low, on expectations of de-escalation in the Iran conflict, and strong foreign portfolio inflows of about $4.3 billion over 13 sessions supported the currency.
Lower crude prices ease India's import bill and reduce dollar demand from oil importers, which is supportive for the rupee; for feed buyers, a firmer rupee lowers the local-currency cost of imported feed ingredients such as soymeal and fishmeal.
