Egypt's House of Representatives agriculture committee, chaired by Sami Shahin, adopted its work plan on 2 November 2026 and will consider a mechanism to announce procurement prices for strategic crops before planting. It will also study amending Agricultural Cooperation Law No. 122 of 1980.
Pre-announced guaranteed procurement prices could encourage domestic production of feed crops such as corn and reduce reliance on imports over time, though the effect on near-term prices is limited.
