Indonesian Food Coordinating Minister Zulkifli Hasan said state logistics agency Bulog will sell 380,000 tons of broken rice that had been stored for a year, at Rp 11,000 per kg. The rice is aimed at micro, small and medium enterprises such as cake makers and vermicelli producers.
The government also plans to sell 100,000 to 150,000 tons of stored corn for poultry feed at Rp 5,500 per kg.
Releasing large state stocks of broken rice and corn for feed use adds supply in Indonesia and could ease domestic prices for rice and feed ingredients. The move is a response to rising corn and feed costs that have pushed up chicken and egg prices.
