Arizona agriculture officials confirmed a second New World screwworm case in Cochise County, this time in a domestic horse with no known travel history. The case is about 45 miles from the first, a dog infected in late October.
A new 20-kilometer Infected Zone is being set up, with animal movement restrictions and suspended self-inspection.
The spread of screwworm into a new Southwest location tightens livestock movement and raises the risk of further restrictions on cattle shipments from Mexico. That supports US cattle prices by limiting supply and trade flows.
After 148 past bullish disease events, LCATTLE moved a median +0.4% over 5 sessions (62% higher; middle half -0.5% to +1.2%), and +1.4% over 20.
Moves of each commodity's benchmark from the last close before the event. Historical reads pool past events of the same kind; they describe what happened, not what will. Not investment advice.
