Ukraine's agricultural exports shifted further to western land routes in October, with rail overtaking waterborne shipments for the first time, according to customs data. Total cleared agricultural exports rose 3% on the month to 2.45 million tonnes but were 41% lower year on year.
Rail carried 49% of flows, while Danube barge shipments fell 16% and Odesa-port exports stayed subdued at 6% of total.
Rerouting to rail and Danube ferries raises logistics costs and cuts throughput, which tightens Ukrainian grain and oilseed availability for export buyers and supports Black Sea-linked prices. Corn exports fell 78% year on year because of costly freight from northern growing areas.
After 285 past bullish logistics events, CORN moved a median +0.1% over 5 sessions (52% higher; middle half -1.5% to +1.5%), and +0.8% over 20.
After 283 past bullish logistics events, WHEAT moved a median -0.2% over 5 sessions (46% higher; middle half -1.4% to +1.3%), and -0.1% over 20.
