Sri Lanka's Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, Namal Karunaratne, said claims of a national fertilizer shortage are false. He stated that urea stocks exceed the roughly 180,000 metric tons needed for paddy cultivation.
He also cited about 31,000 tons of available TSP against a Maha season need of around 25,000 tons, plus over 5,000 tons of SSP.
Adequate domestic urea and phosphate stocks in a small import-dependent market reduce near-term purchase pressure on global urea and TSP supplies, though the market is tight globally after Gulf disruptions.
After 26 past neutral policy events, Urea moved a median -1.0% over 5 sessions (27% higher; middle half -4.1% to +0.6%), and -2.5% over 20.
