Low water on the Danube is forcing barges to load only about 30-40% of normal capacity, according to a Konzul representative speaking at a Sofia conference on October 22. Serbia exported about 1.24 million tonnes of wheat in MY 2025/26, while corn exports fell to about 374,000 tonnes, the lowest since MY 2008/09.
Serbia's exporters are also facing higher road and rail costs.
Higher per-tonne transport costs make Serbian grain less competitive in export markets, which can support Balkan and Italian wheat and corn prices while limiting Serbian supply. Continued low river levels would keep the pressure on regional logistics costs.
After 163 past neutral logistics events, Wheat (SRW) moved a median +0.1% over 5 sessions (53% higher; middle half -1.3% to +1.1%), and -0.3% over 20.
After 284 past neutral logistics events, Corn moved a median -0.0% over 5 sessions (49% higher; middle half -1.3% to +1.4%), and -0.2% over 20.
