The Soybean Processors Association of India opposed poultry breeders' request to import 3 million tonnes of GM soybean meal and to extend zero tariffs to African imports. SOPA said domestic soymeal availability of 8.172 mt exceeds an estimated 8 mt demand, and that soybean price gains are temporary.
If India blocks emergency meal imports, domestic meal stays tight relative to demand but supply is judged adequate, so global soymeal export demand from India is not added. Processors' view that high soybean prices should encourage planting points to firm Indian soy prices.
