Ethanol, biotech, corn, sorghum and biofuel groups issued a joint statement after the D.C. Circuit heard oral arguments on challenges to EPA's 2014-2016 Renewable Volume Obligations.
The groups argued the EPA targets were legally indefensible and that carryover RINs should count toward compliance.
The case could force EPA to raise future biofuel volume targets, which would increase demand for corn-based ethanol and soybean oil. No ruling has been issued, so the price effect is limited for now.
