The Memphis District of the Corps of Engineers has scheduled annual dredging of the New Madrid County Port Authority slack water harbor, from September 8 for 12 days. The city of New Madrid's harbor will be dredged from August 27 through September 7.
The port handles about 800,000 tons of product a year, mostly agricultural.
Routine maintenance dredging temporarily affects capacity at a small Mississippi port. The impact on grain prices is minor because it is a scheduled, short-term work plan.
