The U.S. Soybean Export Council reported that USB-funded research informed a Army Corps of Engineers project to deepen the Mississippi River from 45 to 50 feet between Baton Rouge and the Gulf of Mexico. The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development will also provide funding.
The project is intended to move more soybeans in larger, more cost-effective shipments.
More efficient river shipping for soybean exports should lift export competitiveness and supports soybean prices over time, though the benefits are years away.
After 206 past bullish logistics events, Soybeans moved a median +0.5% over 5 sessions (56% higher; middle half -1.3% to +2.6%), and +1.4% over 20.
