The Army Corps of Engineers has approved a $245 million project to deepen the Mississippi River from 45 to 50 feet between Baton Rouge and the Gulf of Mexico. The effort was informed by a study funded by the United Soybean Board.
The deeper channel will allow larger loads over the 256-mile stretch.
Deeper channels allow bigger vessel loads, which should lower per-bushel freight costs and support soybean export competitiveness over the long term.
After 206 past bullish logistics events, SOY moved a median +0.5% over 5 sessions (56% higher; middle half -1.3% to +2.6%), and +1.4% over 20.
