The Mississippi River Commission will hold its annual low-water inspection trip on the Mississippi River from August 7 to 18, 2017. Public meetings are scheduled in Cape Girardeau, Memphis, Vicksburg and Houma, with a Red River leg adding stops in Shreveport, Natchitoches and Alexandria.
The inspection focuses on navigation and infrastructure needs on the river system that moves much of the US grain export volume. Its direct effect on grain prices is limited unless it leads to funding or restrictions that change barge capacity.
