The American Soybean Association is asking farmers and state groups to file comments with EPA by August 31 on the proposed 2018 and 2019 RFS volumes. EPA's July proposal holds biomass-based diesel at 2.1 billion gallons for 2019 and cuts advanced biofuels by 40 million gallons for 2018.
ASA wants at least 2.75 billion gallons of biodiesel and 5.25 billion gallons of advanced biofuels.
Higher biodiesel mandates would add demand for soybean oil, which is the largest biodiesel feedstock and supports soybean crush margins. The comment push is a lobbying step and the final rule is still pending.
After 842 past bullish policy events, Soybean Oil moved a median +0.2% over 5 sessions (52% higher; middle half -1.6% to +2.1%), and -0.5% over 20.
