USDA's Prospective Plantings report showed U.S. farmers intend to plant 88.982 million acres of soybeans, below the expected 91 million acres and last year's 90.1 million. Soybeans rose 2.6% to a two-week high of $383/t and meal rose 3.4%, while a 3.8% increase in March 1 soybean stocks did not pressure prices.
Weak export sales were partly attributed to Chinese buyers shifting away from U.S. soybeans over possible tariffs.
A smaller-than-expected US soybean acreage tightens the new-crop outlook and supports prices, though trade-related export weakness limits the gain.
After 747 past bullish report events, Soybeans moved a median +0.3% over 5 sessions (54% higher; middle half -1.4% to +2.1%), and +0.8% over 20.
After 414 past bullish report events, Soybean Meal moved a median -0.1% over 5 sessions (48% higher; middle half -2.1% to +2.3%), and +0.3% over 20.
