Pakistani urea prices have risen sharply as gas prices for fertilizer producers soared and subsidies were cut. Engro raised its urea price by Rs882 per 50 kg bag to Rs4,649, while urea prices from other producers range from Rs3,767 to Rs5,489 per bag.
Urea is up about 350 percent since March 2021, while the wheat support price has risen by less than half.
Higher gas-linked nitrogen costs lift fertilizer prices and squeeze farm margins, which can cut wheat planting and output and support feed grain prices. Price distortion between gas networks also keeps the urea market fragmented.
After 129 past bullish policy events, Urea moved a median -0.1% over 5 sessions (47% higher; middle half -1.3% to +2.3%), and +1.4% over 20.
After 182 past bullish policy events, Wheat (SRW) moved a median +0.1% over 5 sessions (52% higher; middle half -1.9% to +1.4%), and -0.3% over 20.
