The Mississippi River Commission began its annual low water inspection trip and scheduled a public meeting aboard the MV Mississippi at Morgan City. Other public meetings were held in Caruthersville, Memphis and Vicksburg.
The commission covers the river from Lake Itasca to Head of Passes.
The inspection is a routine public consultation on river infrastructure and does not itself change grain flows. It can signal future work on navigation problems that affect barge freight costs.
