ICIS reports that US tariffs on Chinese goods, now covering nearly all crop nutrients including urea, ammonium sulphate, and DAP/MAP, are expected to have limited impact. Tariffs of 10% applied from 24 September and rise to 25% on 1 January 2019.
Limited US-China fertilizer trade means little direct price effect, though the scheduled tariff increase adds some upside risk to US phosphate and nitrogen import costs.
After 23 past neutral trade events, Urea moved a median 0.0% over 5 sessions (48% higher; middle half -1.1% to +1.0%), and +2.8% over 20.
After 36 past neutral trade events, DAP moved a median +0.7% over 5 sessions (64% higher; middle half -0.0% to +2.1%), and +0.4% over 20.
