U.S. diesel markets have not yet reflected the expected demand boost from the IMO 2020 switch to 0.5% sulfur marine fuel effective January 2020. Gulf Coast Colonial pipeline diesel has traded 4-6 cents/gallon below Nymex ULSD futures since February, and refiners have not clearly raised distillate yields or built low-sulfur stocks.
Without a visible diesel premium, fuel cost pressure for feed logistics is not yet building, though the rule could still tighten supply later.
After 27 past neutral policy events, DIESEL moved a median -1.4% over 5 sessions (41% higher; middle half -4.3% to +2.6%), and -4.6% over 20.
