The dollar fell against a basket of major currencies on Wednesday after the Federal Reserve cut its policy rate by a quarter point to 1.50%-1.75%, its third cut this year. The Fed also dropped its 'will act as appropriate' language, which had been read as a signal of further cuts.
The dollar index rose to 98.00 as Powell spoke, then retraced to about 97.53.
A softer dollar tends to support dollar-denominated grain and oilseed prices and can improve export competitiveness for US feed ingredients. The removal of easing language reduces expectations of further cuts, which limits the currency's downside.
After 1,637 past bearish macro events, US Dollar (Broad) moved a median -0.2% over 5 sessions (39% higher; middle half -0.6% to +0.3%), and -0.2% over 20.
