Malaysian palm oil futures fell as much as 10% on Tuesday, their largest drop in over a decade, to their lowest since mid-November. The decline followed India's curbs on refined palm oil imports and fears that the coronavirus outbreak in China will weaken demand.
Malaysian palm oil exports for early January were also expected to fall.
Losing India as a key buyer and weaker Chinese demand both point to lower palm oil prices and softer demand for vegetable oils in feed. Lower palm prices may also pull down competing edible oils.
After 158 past bearish trade events, Palm Oil moved a median +0.0% over 5 sessions (51% higher; middle half -1.3% to +0.8%), and -1.4% over 20.
