India's DGFT amended its rice export policy so that shipments of Basmati and non-Basmati rice to EU member states and Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland need a Certificate of Inspection from EIA or EIC. Certification for the remaining European countries becomes mandatory from July 1, 2020.
The added inspection paperwork is a procedural compliance step that adds minor friction to Indian rice exports to Europe, with little expected effect on global rice prices.
