The DGFT amended India's wheat export policy under HS codes 10011900 and 10019910 on February 24. Wheat stays prohibited for export, but 2.5 million tonnes is now permitted, with modalities to follow in a separate Public Notice.
Government-to-government food security exports continue over and above that quota.
The quota is a controlled, partial reopening of India's export channel, so it adds limited supply to world wheat markets until the modalities are published. Traders will watch the Public Notice for the timing of actual sales.
After 122 past bearish policy events, WHEAT moved a median -0.3% over 5 sessions (44% higher; middle half -1.9% to +1.2%), and +0.4% over 20.
Moves of each commodity's benchmark from the last close before the event. Historical reads pool past events of the same kind; they describe what happened, not what will. Not investment advice.
