Post forecasts Brazil's MY 2019/20 corn production at 101 MMT, flat with the prior year, on expanded area and a return to trend yields. It raises the MY 2018/19 export estimate to a record 42.5 MMT and cuts MY 2019/20 exports to 34 MMT on stronger domestic demand.
Rio Grande do Sul, about 20% of first-crop corn, suffered dryness and heat that cut yields, with farmers reporting losses near 30%.
A steady Brazilian crop with lower projected exports leaves more corn at home, which tightens export supply less than expected and supports domestic feed demand. The Rio Grande do Sul losses are a localized supply risk that could firm prices if they spread.
