Nineteen U.S. senators asked the USTR and USDA to help resolve EU non-tariff barriers on U.S. peanuts, citing strict EU aflatoxin requirements. The U.S. peanut industry says these rules cost growers $170 million in recent years.
Losses in the first quarter of 2021 are estimated at another $130 million.
The dispute affects peanut export flows, which are not among the tracked feed commodities. Any resolution would have little direct effect on feed grain or meal prices.
