Bloomberg reports that China's record corn purchases, a key part of the US trade deal, may be slowing as a bumper domestic harvest approaches. Imports in 2020-21 were about 23 million tonnes, and analysts doubt China will meet the USDA's 26 million tonne forecast for 2021-22.
A larger Chinese harvest and weaker import demand reduce expected US corn export sales, which is bearish for corn futures. Falling Chinese corn prices also make imports less attractive.
