The Arkansas rice extension update reports that harvest is over 90% complete after a mostly positive couple of weeks. USDA's October WASDE trimmed 21/22 long-grain production only slightly, to 144.3 million cwt, still down almost 16% from last year.
Long-grain imports were cut by 2.0 million cwt to 28.0 million.
A smaller US long-grain crop and lower imports tighten domestic supply, which supports US rough rice prices. The changes this month were modest, so the effect on prices is limited.
After 50 past neutral report events, Rough Rice moved a median -0.0% over 5 sessions (50% higher; middle half -1.9% to +1.5%), and -1.2% over 20.
