USDA's January 2022 balance sheets lowered the 2021/22 US soybean meal extraction rate to 47.0 pounds per bushel and cut meal production by 200,000 short tons to 51.5 million. The WASDE export forecast for meal was cut by the same 200,000 tons to 14 million short tons, while soybean oil exports were raised 175 million pounds.
A smaller US meal export forecast and lower meal output point to tighter meal availability for export buyers in the near term, though slow sales pace partly offsets this. Oil's higher output and export forecast reflects a shift in crush economics toward oil.
