USDA released a Cost of Processing Study for cheese, whey, butter and nonfat dry milk plants, conducted by Dr. Mark Stephenson at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. The study estimates manufacturing costs for the products used in Federal milk marketing order price formulas, and USDA will hold a webinar on it on February 23.
The study may prompt changes to the Federal order price formulas that set milk prices. Any such change would affect how dairy processors and farmers are paid for milk.
